Character Name: Peter Benjamin Parker

Codename: Spiderman

Group Affiliation: None.

Birthdate: August 10, 1984

Age: 25

Height: 5'10"

Weight: 165 lbs

PB: Tobey Maguire

Physical Description: Peter Parker is slight, unremarkable, not especially strong looking, not especially attractive. Yet he is clearly in shape. He doesn't stand out in a crowd, and doesn't work to change that with an unruly head of brown hair, and an attire that is usually several years if not decades behind in fashion. He looks like he jumps out of bed and dresses in a hurry, and that's exactly true, though he manages not to look like a hobo. If you notice Peter, it's likely to be due to his personality first, and his looks second. Still, he's not the scrawny geek he was in high school.

Personality: Peter Parker was a thoughtful, kind, but introverted child and teen, raised by good people and left to drift in the world of his thoughts and studies. He could have easily developed into yet another absentminded professor, creating remarkable things with his advanced understanding of physics, and moving obliviously through the obstacles of society and friendship. All that changed though in the set of events that created Spiderman. Forged in the crucible of the loss of his uncle and the gaining of his powers was a new Peter, a quickly matured young man who realized that none of us can duck our responsibility to engage with the world, and least of all him.

The persona of Spiderman brought a great deal of trouble into Peter's life, and a great deal of responsibility, but in the end it changed him for the better. He's the kind of friend anyone would want, the one who would give you his last cent though he's getting evicted, the one that would never shrug off your worries as not his problem, the kind of friend who really notices you and seems to care. That absentminded physics student who wouldn't know a girl if he stumbled into one is long gone.

Yet, Peter can't really be that kind of friend, because he is also someone else. Spiderman seems to always show up to complicate Peter's life, and instead he becomes the friend who talks big but never quite shows up, or the friend who has to leave just when you need him, the friend who can't seem to find enough excuses to cover up the holes in his life. A lesser man would tell about Spiderman, the cause of all this trouble, but Peter knows every person who knows his identity becomes a mark. And so he plasters on a smile, does the best as he can, and takes the blame. Maybe his friends think less of him, maybe he even loses them, but they don't get hurt.

Peter would throw away the costume. He can't count the number of times he has. But his responsibility to the people of New York weighs as heavily on him as his care for his friends. Caught in the middle, Peter's true heroics lies in the balancing act he does to care for them all, never giving himself the excuse to let anyone down no matter who they are, or the cost to himself. He gets repaid for it with criticism, hatred or ridicule half of the time, but that's just par for the course at this point.

Peter counters the heavy weight of his responsibilities with the glibness of his tongue. As Spiderman he lets his id free to voice the ridiculousness of his life, to poke fun at his opponents, and to distract himself from the looming danger of his life as a superhero. To hear him, one would think Spiderman the most frivolous, blase hero around. Psychology 101 anyone?

In his personal life, Peter is somewhat guarded of course, but can't hide the kind heart inside. He's witty, self-deprecating and quite obviously intelligent, though he makes no big deal out of his intellect or his education. He was raised with old-fashioned values, that make you a geek in high school, but attractive as a man. He's humble, polite, serious about whatever he undertakes, always doing his best no matter what. His first instinct is to offer his help, to listen to others and to make them comfortable. He comes across as quite charming, without any of the slick arrogance of so many men, but having a quiet confidence that few have (so would you if you'd traded punches with The Hulk).

Super Powers:

Adhesion Peter can cling to any surface, no matter how slick, allowing him to cling or walk on walls or ceilings. This power is completely conscious, he only adheres to surfaces when he wants to.

Spider sense Peter possesses an extra sense that warns him of danger. This strange tingling sensation in his head will warn him of any threat, certainly to himself, and if grave enough, to others. The sense is vague as to the nature of the threat, but always lets him know the intensity and direction of the threat, and combined with his spider reflexes allows him to move to avoid danger before it occurs.

At a low level his spider sense is useful in simple navigating, causing him to avoid loose bricks or slippery spots, and enabling him to move in darkness. It also alerts him to subtle dangers, such as being seen changing costume. Certain villains have managed to nullify his spider sense, but never permanently.

Super Strength The bite of the spider gave Peter the proportionate strength of the arachnid, which translates into superhuman strength. Able to lift ten tons, Peter can crush iron with his hands, punch through concrete and leap three stories. The superhuman strength adds to his durability as well, although he can still be injured as any other human.

Agility Peter's agility is the keystone of his spider abilities, allowing him to move with a flexibility and speed unmatched by human beings or super beings alike. Able to contort his body and move his limbs independently with remarkable deftness, Spiderman has the ability to dodge bullets in midflight, balance on the merest support, fight multiple opponents at once, swing from building to building 50 stories in the air, bounce from wall to flagpole to ground and up again all the time dodging attacks (and making snappy banter). Peter's natural agility is far and beyond the human level, even that of trained superhumans such as Daredevil.

Combined with his spidersense, Spiderman has the ability to dodge nearly any attack made at him while delivering amazing attacks and movements of his own. Combined with his webswinging, Spiderman is able to use his agility to move at an amazing speed through the air.

Web Shooters Peter's webbing is not in fact a superpower, but rather a remarkable material and piece of equipment developed by Peter himself. A sign of his amazing ability in physics, Spiderman's web shooters were designed by Peter when only a high school student. Worn on the wrists, they fire an amazingly adhesive, and strong, webbing that can be used for transportation, offensive, defense or entrapment. The webbing is strong enough to take the strain of Spiderman (and possibly passengers') weight in flight through the air, and is strong and resistant enough to prove almost impossible to rend by his opponents. Over the years Peter has perfected the ability to use his webbing in different ways, including making shields, projectiles, nets, etc. In a fight he will use the webs to bind an enemy's hands, disable their weapons, trap them to an object, blind them or trip them. He also can use his webbing to make a sack to carry his clothes and camera.

Spider tracers Another device of Peter's invention is a spider tracer, a tiny tracker that will adhere to a person or object. The tracer works with Peter's spider sense, allowing him to track it, or to find it again if he comes close enough to detect it.

Control of Power: Spiderman is experienced in the use of his powers, having honed them over years of going up against a rogue's gallery again and again.

Weaknesses: Peter's spider sense is a biological function, and could be dulled or deadened by the right biological agent. His agility and speed are much greater than a normal human's, but not on part with some other superpowered individuals, and he therefore can be hit. His webbing relies on web cartridges which not only can run out, but cost him money and time to produce.

Special Skills/Abilities: Peter Parker is a gifted intellect, having grown up with a love of physics, and an interest in tinkering. At the age of 17 he was able to construct his web shooters and web fluid, as well as his spider tracers, showing his mastery of physics, circuitry and engineering. He also is able to make his own costumes, although he's not an expert tailor by any stretch.

Peter has received his bachelor's degree, and done work towards his Master's, and would easily possess that and more if not distracted by his life as Spiderman. He excels at science and research when he puts his time to it.

Though starting as nothing but an amateur photographer, and often using his automatic camera to catch himself in action, over the years Peter has become a decent professional photographer. He's able to make a living as a freelance photographer.

Extras:

-Peter would rather eat pizza out of a box than go to a restaurant
-Peter cares for his Aunt May more than anything in the world, even perhaps more than his own values
-Peter longs to just let himself go, be impulsive, no inhibitions, but never lets himself
-Peter does not care for beer, though sometimes he drinks it just so he doesn't look odd among friends. He's not a wine drinker and doesn't even pretend. He prefers soda and has sometimes been known to carry some change in his costume.
-Peter is very accustomed to life as a superhero now, with webswinging being his version of relaxing and watching TV. Being Spiderman is not a role, it's just another part of his life.
-Peter can get very antsy walking along the sidewalks of New York or down in the subway, longing to be up on top of it all instead.
-Peter doesn't own a cell phone, due to the difficulty it would cause explaining "where were you" all the times he didn't answer it.

History:

Peter Parker was an ordinary high school dork until he was bit by a radioactive spider on a field trip. Thinking nothing of it at the time, he soon noticed his body changing, taking on the enhanced abilities of the mutated spider.

Though at first he thought to use his powers for his own gain, reveling in being the Alpha Wolf for once, he soon learned a humbling lesson. His dear Uncle Ben was shot by the very criminal Peter had not bothered to help stop earlier that day. It was at that moment that Spider-man was truly born, not when the spider bit him.

Peter's first and greatest challenge was facing the Green Goblin. A superpowered nemesis who threatened not only Spider-man, but the life of Mary Jane, Peter eventually learned that the goblin was none other than Norman Osborn, the father of Peter's best friend. Peter eventually defeated the Green Goblin in his hardest battle to that point, and Norman was killed by his own glider while trying to trick Peter. Though it ended the villain's reign, it spawned a hatred of Spider-man in Harry, and only made keeping his identity secret harder and more important.

In the years since Peter has grown accustomed to his dual life, fighting crime and taking on supervillains whenever they threaten good old New York City, and trying to make it as a freelance photographer and student at the same time. His relationship with Mary Jane is tense, he's pushed her away, afraid of letting anyone close to him for fear of their danger. He's made friends at the Daily Bugle and at school, and he does his best to be a good friend despite often disappearing to fight The Rhino. His life is composed of keeping in Aunt May's good graces, trying to get his degree, trying to pay the rent and keeping everybody in the Big Apple safe. He has steered clear of these new superheroes and groups popping up, feeling more comfortable doing his own thing.

Spiderman froze in a crouch as the spotlight hit him, his arms extended and a trace of webbing stretching from him to the mugger he had just webbed to the lamppost. The blue lights of the cop car flashed over his costume as two voices called out, "Don't move," followed by the clicks of their safeties.

"It's not what it looks like, officers," Spidey quipped, snapping loose the webbing from his wrists to the muffled cries of the mugger. The victim, Pete noticed, had long since run off, leaving him in a rather uncompromising situation. "Do you guys think I do this for fun? Just web people up? I can see, that would be creepy. But trust me, this guy was up to no good. He was mugging that ... well, she's gone."

Spider-man's spider sense tingled as the officers advanced slowly, guns pointed, knees bent. "Get down on the ground, freak," one of them called out.

Pete sighed. "Remind me why I do this again?" He asked to nobody in particular. Shooting a string of webbing up into the sky, Spider-man snagged a building top. "Sorry, I couldn't stay and play Twister. But maybe the guy there, the one with the gun, and the tattoos, and probably a rap sheet a mile long, he could play. In a while." Spidey launched himself up with his legs, swinging up and over hte heads of the surprised cops. Don't they even watch TV? Spidey muttered to himself. I've been doing this for a while.
